My story
When I was young, around kindergarten, I grabbed whatever I could find in the garage and tried to make a small drawbridge that was inspired by a book called “Castles” by Little Library. It was my first memory of creating something. All my life, I continued creating, drawing, woodworking, ceramics, sculpting and, by the age of 20, I was offered a job to work with my dear friend at his mothers jewelry business.
There for 5 years, I apprenticed under Mohan. He was a great mentor, friend, and father figure that taught me as much about life as he did about making jewelry. He was from Sri Lanka. His father and grandfather, going back generations, were goldsmiths. They used ancient techniques and skills long since forgotten. I owe so much to Mohan and the great smiths that came before him.
There came a time when my heart felt restless. As much as I loved the making of jewelry, there was a whole other realm of creative expansion awaiting. My soul yearned to interact with people, to share, to bring my unique perspective into the world. In June 2024, I officially acted upon what I knew in my heart I was meant to do. With a handful of pieces, I went to markets, and through the support of the great people I met, it gifted me the opportunity to pursue this path and bring my art into this world.
When I started, I was proficient in making a very specific type of fine jewelry. I could’ve never foreseen what I would end up exploring. Trying techniques and styles completely new on a never-ending creative upward trajectory. What I found at the core of every piece was the attempt to create something beautiful. To give a shimmer of the divine on earth.
I feel at the core of art is the pursuit of beauty. Beauty is something timeless and true, it keeps people visiting the statue of David, the great pyramids of Egypt, or the Taj Mahal. The work I seek to create is an attempt to capture this essence, to share beauty. So people wearing a piece of mine today or in thousands of years can admire it, feel its enduring charm, and know that the creators' intent was to capture the transcendental nature of beauty.
It is such an honor and a gift to bring beauty to this world. I hope everyone who I have crossed paths with, who has a piece they cherish, knows it was created in the pursuit of that which is good, true, and beautiful. Thank you.
